Hovey Lab

Professor Russ Hovey received a Bachelors of Agricultural Science, with a major in Animal Science and First Class Honors, from the University of Queensland, Australia. He earned his PhD from Massey University, New Zealand while studying at the Ruakura Research Center and working on the role of the mammary fat pad during mammary development. He subsequently undertook postdoctoral at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland where he worked on the hormonal regulation of mammary gland development and breast cancer. He began his academic career in the Department of Animal Science at the University of Vermont, then relocated to the Department of Animal Science at UC Davis, where he teaches the Introductory Animal Science course and a senior-level course in Lactation Physiology. His research program is dedicated to deciphering the mechanisms underlying normal mammary gland biology and function leading to milk synthesis as well as cancer.
